The Economic Institute of the Latvian Academy of Sciences Announces the Second Call for the Latvian Outstanding Women Award “LIEPA”

This prestigious award has been established to honour exceptional women who, through their work and innovative solutions, have made a significant contribution to science, entrepreneurship, education, innovation, and who, with a spirit of progress, inspire the younger generation to achieve excellence.

The award ceremony will take place at the Latvian Academy of Sciences on 6 March 2026, within the framework of the 8th International Humanistic Economic Forum (www.economicforum.lv).

Objectives and Categories of the Award

The aim of the award is to encourage the sharing of experience and to honour women who, through their example, demonstrate the values of equality, progress, and social responsibility.

Awards are granted in five categories:

  1. Excellence in Science, Research, and Innovation Development

  2. Achievements in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STREAM)

  3. Contribution to Social Development and Equality, and to the Strengthening of Peace and Security

  4. Leadership in Entrepreneurship and Job Creation

  5. Achievements in Educating the Next Generation, Youth Development, and Talent Growth

Each winner will receive a Certificate of Recognition from the President of the Latvian Academy of Sciences, the unique “LIEPA” award, and a monetary prize of EUR 1,000.

Eligibility and Nomination Rules

Candidates for the “LIEPA” Award may be nominated by Latvian scientific institutions and research centres, universities, other higher education institutions, schools, institutes, associations, public bodies, as well as by any state, municipal, or private organisation.

To participate in the competition, the candidate must:

  • be at least 18 years of age;

  • have proven achievements in her field;

  • demonstrate a visible contribution to societal development and the promotion of

    gender equality;

  • represent the interests of Latvia and its regions.

    Applications must be submitted by 26 February 2026 (inclusive).
    Documents should be submitted electronically to ei@lza.lv, with the subject line: “Second International Women’s Day Award LIEPA – [category]”.

Evaluation Process and Award Ceremony

Applications will be evaluated by theExpert Committee of the 8th International Humanistic Economic Forum, based on the following criteria:

      • impact of the candidate’s activities;

      • innovation and creativity in addressing societal challenges;

      • contribution to the promotion of gender equality;

      • sustainability and long-term perspective of the candidate’s initiatives;

      • public recognition and visibility, particularly among young people.

The names of the winners will be announced on1 March 2026. The award ceremony will take place on 6 March 2026, within the framework of the 8th International Humanistic Economic Forum “Innovative Economy in Times of Geopolitical Change.”
