He graduated from Riga 77th Secondary School and later earned a bachelor’s degree in social sciences, specializing in psychology, from the Riga Academy of Pedagogy and Educational Management.

Since 2014, he has been serving in the National Guard. He also worked as an assistant to Saeima member Jānis Dombrava during the 10th, 11th, and 12th Saeima sessions. In the 2013 municipal elections, he was elected to the Baldone County Council, where he served as deputy chairman from 2013 to 2016. J. Eglits later became the parliamentary secretary at the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development (2016-2019) and also headed the office of Kaspars Gerhards when Gerhards held various ministerial roles. In 2022 and 2023, he served as the parliamentary secretary for the Ministry of Defense.
