Juris Binde, born on May 28, 1955, in Riga, is a Latvian businessman, scientist, engineer, and economist. He is the president and chairman of the board of “Latvijas Mobilais Telefons” (LMT) and a professor at Vidzeme University. Binde has played a key role in advancing Latvia’s telecommunications industry, positioning LMT as a leader in technology innovation and business.
He completed his secondary education at Riga’s 2nd Secondary School in 1973 and went on to study at the Faculty of Radio Engineering and Communications at Riga Polytechnic Institute, where he earned a degree as a radio equipment engineer (Mg. sc. ing., Dipl. ing.) in 1978. He furthered his education in Germany (1990), at the Swedish Management Institute IFL (1995), and at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business (2000). From 2005 to 2007, he pursued a doctorate in economics (Dr. oec.) at the Faculty of Economics and Management at the University of Latvia, specializing in business administration. During this time, he also completed a pedagogical program at the University of Latvia, focusing on university teaching methods (2006).
